It is the time of year when Tinnitus UK (formerly British Tinnitus Association) has their awareness week and we welcome the opportunity to bring this condition to your attention again.
Tinnitus is the perception of noises in the head and/or the ears which has no external source. It is very unique for each individual and as such all age groups can experience the sensation.
Many people have tinnitus and manage the condition well whilst a small proportion of people suffer with Tinnitus and it is these people who may need our assistance in managing the condition. The causes of tinnitus is still not fully understood but can be associated with hearing loss, exposure to loud noises, stress/anxiety and/or ear infections. Treatment options vary with each individual. Treatment options include information, correcting hearing loss (if this exists) or sound therapy as a means of distraction.
