This initial consultation is likely to be our first meeting with you if you have not attended our practice before. It will be an opportunity for you to discuss your hearing problems and hearing needs. A chance to learn about you and your lifestyle – to find out which situations in your day to day life are causing the most difficulties when it comes to your hearing. We recommend that you bring along a close relative or friend to this consultation as having someone with you can often be helpful for you and the Audiologist.
The appointment will include a full hearing assessment including otoscopy (an examination of the external ear canal leading to the ear drum), tympanometry ( a test middle ear function) and a full hearing test conducted in a sound proof room.
A full medical history relating to your ears and your hearing will be taken, including reference to any problems you may have with balance or tinnitus. Sometimes, a referral to an Ear, Nose and Throat Consultant for a medical opinion will be necessary. Should Tinnitus management be required then further appointments can be arranged.
We will then discuss in detail your hearing test results together with the hearing difficulties you have been experiencing.
You will be advised as to the most appropriate action to take and the options available to you. This appointment will take up to one hour for which there will be a minimum consultation charge.
If hearing aids are recommended, we will provide you with information on the private hearing aids best suited to your hearing loss, expectations, life style and your budget thereby enabling you to make an informed choice. If hearing aids are required and you decide to purchase, the consultation charge will be deducted from the cost of the aid/s.
